"Textures"

Weathered wood supports, deteriorating beams, a heavy chain and a rusted hook, wired Christmas lights from Target....what would possess me to photograph this potpourri of elements? I can't answer that question, other than the combination of it all prompted me to turn, focus and shoot. And the more I look at this unlikely mixture of elements, the more I like it. I can only hope you do, too.

"Lone Artist"

The world of the artist can be a lonely existence, as is evidenced by this plein air artist dwarfed by his subject as he hopes to capture on canvas the majesty of the Rocky Mountains.

Photographed in Rocky Mountain National Park, the entire area surrounding Estes Park is a haven for painters, photographers, hikers, naturalists and vacationers.

"World's Most Recognizable Logo"

When you look at this wooden ice chest emblazoned with Coca-Cola, you can appreciate why this beloved trademark has gained worldwide recognition over the years. In a search for antique wooden Coca-Cola coolers on the internet to determine age, no listings were found. However, wooden coolers did exist; I know, because I photographed this one behind an old clapboard house in a public park in Glen Rose TX. As promised in an earlier post, logos will be featured periodically on this site just to remind us of how important corporate "signatures" have become in our lives, both today and in bygone eras.

"Beauty Interrupted"

While strolling the shores of Lake Estes, the serenity and pristine beauty of Colorado was suddenly overshadowed by one of nature's aberrations: the turkey buzzard. The presence of this large, carniverous fowl proved one thing: the good Lord had a basket full of ugly left over when he put this creature together.

"Ho, Ho, Ho"

You just never know who you might run into, and usually at the most unlikely spot. Fortunately, I had my trusty Nikon with me. So when I passed this jovial, happy shopper at an outdoor art festival, it was the white hair, with the dramatic highlights from a sunny Colorado sky that moved me to ask if I might take his picture. Do you suppose this is.......no probably not. I'm sure I'm just jumping to conclusions. But he sure looks familiar, doesn't he?

"Takin' a Break"

As I stolled the downtown Plaza of Santa Fe, one of the first things that caught my attention was a handsome street musician gathering his thoughts before starting on his next "set". But his rugged good looks were just the beginning, because what demanded one's attention, was when this entertainer began to sing. His voice was one of clarity, power and pitch that made you pause and absorb the musical magic that was being created. It made me question how so many "no-talent" personalities are raking in millions, while this obviously gifted performer is relegated to singing for tips around a fountain in a park in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
